Description
Mearshurst Cottage is a house dating from the late 16th or 17th century. It is timber framed, with part of the structure underbuilt in brick and galleted sandstone rubble, featuring brick dressings. The exposed frame above has brick infilling, and the roof is plain tiled. Originally, it was a three-bay house with a central chimney, to which one bay has been added on the left. The cottage stands two storeys high, with the stack now positioned to the right of centre. The first floor displays ogee tension bracing, and there is a four-light diamond-pane mullioned window to the left of centre, along with a small two-light window to the left. To the right of centre, there is a louvred window and a plate glass window. The ground floor features two diamond-pane leaded casement windows. The door, located to the right of centre, is set in a flat porch with half-glazed boarded sides and a braced post. Additionally, there is a pentice extension to the right, which is tile hung across the rear.
