Description

The Former Private Apartments at Guildford Castle date back to the late 12th century. They are constructed from flint and clunch rubblestone with ashlar dressings. The structure consists of two storeys and is currently roofless, featuring a square room adjacent to the Museum and a wall that projects northeast towards the tower keep. The main walls stand approximately 7 to 8 metres high, with a lower spur wall to the northeast. One wall includes a round-arched window with a deep embrasure, and to the left, there is a tile-edged round-arched door. These apartments are part of a scheduled Ancient Monument, known as Surrey Monument No. 1.
