Description

The Paine chest tomb, located 6 yards south-west of the corner of the Church of St. Laurence, is a Grade II listed tomb dedicated to Richard Paine, who died in 1829. It is constructed of stone set on a brick plinth with a moulded base. The tomb features panelled sides adorned with oval decorations and milled edges, with fan motifs at the corners. The flat stone lid has a moulded edge, and the angled piers are recessed and fluted. The entire structure is enclosed by a railed surround, which includes central standards on the north and south sides, as well as corner standards topped with urn finials.
