Description

Pitch Place House is a house dating from 1683, located on Worplesdon Road in Worplesdon. Constructed of red brick on a brick and rubblestone plinth, it has plain tiled roofs. The house has an "H" shaped plan, with extensions projecting at right angles to the rear. It is two storeys high, with attics in the gables. A square, offset stack sits to the right of the centre, and an end stack is located to the left.

The symmetrical front façade has five bays, with the end bays projecting under Dutch gables. A plat band runs above the ground and first floors, and there's brick on edge coping to the gables, with brick scrollwork to the gable eaves. Single, camber-headed sash windows are set in each gable, positioned under projecting cut brick diamond motifs. The first floor has six glazing bar sash windows, modern replacements, with seven windows below. All the ground floor windows feature tile on edge decoration rising to form keystones.

The right-hand return front is constructed of stone and features a "Tudor" style arched door surround with floral decorations in the spandrels. The door itself has moulded and chamfered jambs, a studded surface, and strapwork hinges. A double-gabled wing extends to the rear, along with a further single-storey service wing projecting at a right angle from the main front.
