Description

The Three Pigeons Public House is a public house built around 1918 in a style reminiscent of the late 17th century. It features timber and whitewashed render on the upper floors, with a ground floor made of red-orange brick, and has a plain tiled roof. The building stands three storeys tall with attics above a cellar, and includes a corbelled stack at the right end.

Notable architectural details include a modillioned eaves cornice and a modillioned pediment that is interrupted by a timber dormer with a leaded casement window set under a round-arched and keystoned head. The building has prominent rainwater heads and downpipes on the first and second floors. A large curved oriel window extends through the first and second floors at the front, featuring leaded wood-framed glazing inspired by the Swallows House in Ipswich, and cornice hoods above both the second and first floors. The ground floor has continuous wood-framed glazing with recessed flanking doors at either end. This imposing building is recognized for its quality and its group value at the junction of High Street and North Street.
