Description
No. 162 High Street is a house that has been converted into an office and shop. It dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century and features colourwashed stucco over the shop front on the ground floor. The building has a moulded coping on the parapet that partly obscures the hipped, plain-tiled roofs, which are arranged parallel and end on to the street. It stands three storeys high with chimney stacks located at the rear.
The front of the building, which faces High Street, has three bays, although the centre bay is blocked on the second floor. On the second floor, there are two plate-glass sash windows, while the first floor has three 12-pane glazing-bar sash windows below. The ground floor features a 19th or 20th-century shop front with a dentilled blind box, thin jamb shafts, and a deeply recessed door to the left. There is also an arched entrance to the left, which is accented by a keystone and flanked by fluted pilasters. Additionally, the ground floor has a window that bows around the right-hand corner.
On the right-hand return front, which faces Holy Trinity, there are two bays. The window in the bay to the right is blocked on the second floor, while the first floor has two 12-pane sash windows.
