Description
Nos 161 and 163 on High Street is a town house that has been converted into a shop. It dates back to the early 18th century, although there have been some alterations and extensions made to the rear in the 20th century. The building is constructed of red-orange brick with fine joints, and it has a rendered ground floor. Above, there is a plain tiled roof with a cross-ridge multiple stack located at the left end.
The structure stands three storeys tall with attics, featuring rendered plat bands over the ground and first floors. There is a bold wooden modillion eaves cornice that breaks forward at the center and ends over the windows. The facade is regular with three bays, including two 20th-century gabled casement dormers in the roof. The second floor has three plate glass sash windows with open sash boxes, and the outer windows have ogee cut brick heads. The first floor also has three similar windows, with the center window showcasing a cut brick decorated head. The ground floor features a plate glass shop front with deeply recessed doors. The 20th-century extensions to the rear are not considered to be of special interest.
