Description

The Old Great Halfpenny is a house dating from the late 16th century, which was restored in the 20th century. It is timber-framed with a whitewashed rubblestone plinth and tile-hung cladding in patterned bands on the gable end. The timber frame is exposed, with whitewashed brick infilling on the rear gable and the left-hand return front. The roof is tiled.

The house is set at a right angle to the street and has two storeys with a gable-lit attic. A stack is located on the front gable to the left, with a further offset stack on the left-hand return front. The front has three framed bays, with attic casement windows in the gable ends. A 3-light window is located on the first floor of the entrance front. A canted bay extends from the ground floor, with a ribbed door to the right. The right-hand return front, facing the yard, has irregular casement fenestration with three windows on the first floor and five below. The left-hand return front has irregular fenestration, with a door to the left of centre, set in a pent-roofed porch between the stacks.

The interior features a substantial exposed timber frame, although it has been restored.
