Description

Crown Cottage is a cottage dating from the 17th century, with alterations in the 18th century and a 20th-century restoration. It is timber framed, with exposed framing visible in the gable ends, set back to the right. The rest of the visible structure is red brick, with some areas colourwashed. The roof is covered in plain tiles. The cottage is T-shaped, with a cross wing to the right.

The front features a rendered plinth and a plat band above the ground and first floors, and around the gable to the left of centre. A stack with a plat band along the top is positioned to the right of centre. The windows are wood-framed with leaded casements. The first floor on the left has a single two-light window with a cambered head, and a three-light window raised in the gable, with a panel below it. To the right of centre is a two-light cambered head window, and a larger three-light window on the first floor. The ground floor windows are three-light casements. A board door is located to the right of centre, sheltered by a flat, lead-covered hood supported by two hangers.

The rear of the cottage comprises two gabled wings. The group value of the building lies in its representation of vernacular architecture and its contribution to the character of the area.
