Description
Nos. 36 to 40 on The Street is a cottage that has been extended to the right and is now part shop. It dates from the late 16th century and was extended and refronted in the mid-19th century. The building has a timber frame clad in whitewashed roughcast on the left and center, and colorwashed on the right. It features plain tiled roofs and is two storeys high, with double gable end bays to the right and a large rear stack to the right, as well as a front end stack to the left.
On the first floor, there are two leaded casement windows to the left, while the ground floor has one glazing bar sash window to the left, along with a bow shop window and a shop door next to it. The two gabled bays jetty out on the first floor and have a fascia board over the ground floor, along with pierced wavy edge bargeboards topped with spike finials. Each gabled bay has one leaded casement window on the first floor under a label moulding, and there is one glazing bar sash window on the ground floor to the right. A panelled door is located at the ground floor of the right-hand gable.
