Description

Old Forge is a house dating from the 16th century, with a main range added in the 17th century. The original timber-framed section is positioned at right angles to the street, featuring a frame of thin scantling with brick infill on the first floor, which is underbuilt in brick. The 17th-century brick range runs parallel to the street at the rear and was raised in the 20th century. The roofs are plain tiled, with the lower roof hipped over the cross wing. The building has a T-shaped plan, with the taller range located at the rear.

There is a large ridge stack to the left of centre on the rear range and another ridge stack on the cross wing facing the street. The house is two storeys high, with a plat band over the ground floor at the rear and gable-lit attics at the left end. On the left side, there is one casement window on each floor, and one casement window on the cross wing. A large angle bay is located at the end right, covered by a hipped roof. The entrance features a half-glazed door in the re-entrant angle, sheltered by a flat hood supported on metal brackets. There is a single-storey extension with a slate roof to the left, which includes double casement doors, as well as single-storey extensions to the right.
