Description

This is an early or mid-18th century pit house building, altered and extended in the early 19th century and again in the mid-19th century. The Cheam Road elevation is largely obscured by early 19th century extensions, which consist of two two-storey stucco wings without windows, flanking a single-storey, top-lit vestibule. The vestibule is entered through a stucco doorway featuring Tuscan pilasters and an entablature.

The main block on the garden side is stuccoed and has two storeys, with a parapet. It features three ranges of early 19th century sash windows with glazing bars, the central one being tripartite. Three ground-floor French windows are present, with Gothick glazing bars. A red brick extension from the early 19th century adjoins the south-east, also two storeys high, with a pitched slate roof. This extension has two bays, one projecting forward, featuring a ground-floor door, a round-arched sash window with glazing bars on the first floor, and a parapet to the roof. The second bay has a segmental bow with sash windows and glazing bars on the ground floor, and a semi-circular relieving arch above. A single casement with glazing bars is also present. The south-east elevation of this extension includes a first-floor canted bay with sash windows and glazing bars, projecting over the garden on two iron columns. A mid-19th century red brick, two-storey extension is located to the north-west. Much of the internal joinery dates to the early 19th century.
