Description
West Ewell Railway Station, built around 1847, is a notable example of an early country station that remains largely unaltered. The station is constructed of brown brick and features a double flat-pitched slate roof with bargeboarded gables at the entrance front. It has two storeys and a decorative band.
The entrance front includes two round-arched sash windows with moulded stucco voussoirs, flanking double doors that have fielded panelling and a segment-headed fanlight above, also with moulded stucco voussoirs. On the first floor, there are two narrow round-arched sashes. The right side of the building is slightly set back and features one sash window with glazing bars on the ground floor, along with a timber-framed and roughcast oriel window on the first floor.
There are one-storey extensions on both the left and right sides. The platform side mirrors the main front, with one door in each of the setback sections. An original canopy supported by four iron columns with coved capitals and ornamental bargeboards extends over the platform. There is a shelter on the opposite platform made of timber, featuring two fixed windows with glazing bars. The canopy is supported by iron brackets with ornamental circles in the spandrels. Inside, there is a round bench and a double door leading to the waiting room at the back.
