Description
This building, known as 138-144 Octagon Road, is a group of almshouses constructed around 1912, possibly designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield. It features red brick with pilaster quoins and central projecting sections at the ends of the pavilions. The roofs are hipped and covered with plain tiles, extending over the pavilion ends. There are two tall chimney stacks on the chimney breasts. On the ground floor, each side has two outer bays with small casement windows. The central recess includes a casement window to the right and a half-glazed door to the left. Whiteley Village, where this building is located, was established by William Whiteley for frugal elderly residents and was designed in an octagonal layout by Frank Atkinson, utilizing prominent architects of the time.
