Description
The Church of St. Peter, built in 1887 by J.L. Pearson, is located in Hersham, Elmbridge. It is constructed of buff stone with stone dressings and features plain tiled roofs adorned with stone crucifixes on the gables. The church has a cruciform layout, with an organ chamber and porch on the south side, and a square tower topped with a broach spire at the northwest corner. The building includes lancet windows and a clock on the north and west faces, as well as three-light plate tracery windows in the nave and five-light windows at the ends of the transepts. The east window features three lights with thin columned surrounds, and the north door is planked with a dog-tooth surround and scroll-work hinges.
Inside, the church has a four-bay nave arcade supported by round piers with moulded capitals. The chancel arch is double columned, leading to a three-bay chancel with painted walls. Notable fittings include a marble reredos, a gilt wrought iron screen, and a wooden screen at the north transept arch. There are triple arched sedilia and a trefoil arched piscina on the south chancel wall, along with a richly carved and arcaded pulpit. The stone font is lobed and columned, set on a marble stem.
