Description

The Coombe tomb, located 4 metres north of the north aisle of the Church of St Andrew, is a Grade II listed chest tomb dedicated to Harvey Christian Combe, Member of Parliament, who died in 1828. The tomb features a stone canopied sarcophagus set on an earth mound, designed in the style of John Soane. It has a sail vault canopy supported by panelled corner piers, with a central crest and angle fans on the vault. The sarcophagus rests on fluted cabriole legs with lion's paw feet. The edge of the lid is adorned with egg and dart moulding, and the top has a tent roof design with double scrolls at the centre ridge.
