Description

This is a house, now divided into two cottages, located on West End Lane, Esher. It was originally built in 1742, with additions made in the early 19th century to both the left and right sides. The house is constructed of red brick, with some blue brick detailing, and has plain tiled roofs that are half-hipped on the left side. A central chimney stack is visible on the front elevation. The building has two storeys, with a plat band above the ground floor and dentilled eaves, with some boarded areas to the right. There are five windows on the first floor; these are glazing bar sash windows to the left, and casement windows to the right. The ground floor windows are set beneath gauged heads. A half-glazed door within a wooden surround, sheltered by a gabled, slate-roofed trellis porch, leads to the left-hand cottage (No. 68). The right-hand cottage (No. 69) has a planked, part-glazed door with a 20th-century felt-roofed, gabled porch hood supported by wooden posts. A catslide extension is located at the right-hand end. A brick plaque with a moulded brick surround is centrally-placed on the first floor, inscribed "T.M./1742".
