Description
Semaphore House is a building dating from around 1822, located in Claygate, Elmbridge. It features rendered brick construction on a projecting plinth and has a hipped slate roof. The structure includes a three-storey square tower at the center, a two-storey bay to the left, and a one-storey bay to the right, all built over basements. The windows throughout are 20th-century glazing bar sash windows. To the left of the tower, there is a projecting single-storey porch with a window, and a panelled door on the left side of the porch, which is accessed by a flight of six steps. At the time of the last survey, the house was undergoing restoration. Semaphore House is part of a series of semaphore towers that extend from Portsmouth to Whitehall, as noted in Pevsner's "Buildings of England, Surrey."
