Description
Hyde Cottage and the attached stables are a former cartshed and lofted stable, with the cartshed converted into a cottage in the mid-20th century. The buildings date from the late 18th century to early 19th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. They are constructed from coursed rubble limestone and feature stone slate roofs, along with a 20th-century brick chimney. The cottage is a single storey with two bays, which was originally open at the front but now has two 20th-century rectangular bay windows and a 20th-century door to the right. The taller stable range projects to the left and includes a loft door with a flat stone arch and keyblock in the front gable end, although the external steps are missing. There is a later door below this loft door. The right side of the stable range has two loft windows with paired wooden casements in gabled eaves-line dormers, while the left side features two stable doorways with segmental stone heads. This property was formerly part of Rock Farm, which was established after the Enclosure Act of 1770, with the farmhouse now known as No. 45 (Manor Guest House) on Lawton Avenue.
