Description

Elm House, formerly known as Elm Farm, is a former farmhouse dated 1683. It features coursed rubble with ashlar quoins on a chamfered plinth, topped by a Cotswold stone roof. The building has square paired end chimneys on the east side, which retain joint capping. It is two storeys high with a basement and a gable-lit attic. The façade has a 2:3 window arrangement, with cross mullion wooden casements that have chamfered wooden lintels on the ground floor, and a continuous wooden string lintel over the first floor. There are two 2-light stone mullion windows in the basement on the left side. The entrance is roughly central, featuring a ledged door with the date in raised letters above it. To the right, there is a 1-bay extension with a chimney dated 1684; here, the ground floor window and door have stone flat arches.

Inside, the house boasts a well staircase with ball-topped newels, two of which retain a turned underside, and stout turned balusters on a moulded string. The east room on the ground floor has a fine stone Tudor-arch fireplace with a cornice, while the west room features a fireplace with a cambered wooden lintel and cut firearm brackets above, along with a wide stop-chamfered spine beam. The door surrounds exhibit diamond stop-chamfers, and the east room has a plaster design above the fireplace. Additionally, there is some carving on a quoin to the right of the main block.
