Description

Carterton War Memorial, made of limestone, is situated in Market Square next to the Town Hall. The memorial features a wheel-head Maltese cross with carved beaded detail on a rectangular shaft that widens towards the base. This shaft rises from a two-stepped circular base.

On the front of the shaft, there is a raised shield that bears the dedication for the First World War: "TO THE MEMORY OF CARTERTON MEN WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918" followed by names. Below this, there are later inscriptions that read "1939 – 1945" followed by names, and "2008" with a name associated with Iraq.
