Description
The Old Barn is a former farm building that has been converted into a house. It dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century and was altered in the mid-20th century. The structure is built of coursed rubble limestone and features a mid-20th century artificial stone slate roof, along with a brick chimney located at the center of the right wing. The building is arranged in an L-shape and consists of one storey.
The left wing has three bays with altered openings, which include mid-20th century two- and three-light wooden casements, all fitted with wooden lintels. The right wing projects and contains a mid-20th century two-light casement in a new opening in the gable end, with a blocked loft opening above that has a wooden lintel. The left return of this wing features single lights, a canted bay window with mid-20th century metal casements, and a half-glazed door.
The Old Barn was formerly part of Rock Farm, which was established after the Enclosure Act of 1770. The farmhouse associated with it is now known as No. 45, Manor Guest House, located on Lawton Avenue.
