Description
Manor Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely includes part of a former chapel, dating back to the 12th century with some 15th-century elements, possibly from the Manor House, and later alterations. It is built of stone coursed rubble with a concrete tile roof and features stone end stacks, one of which has a brick flue. The building is two storeys high with an attic and has a four-bay range. To the left of the center, there is a wide 15th-century ribbed door with an open stone porch that has a hipped stone slate roof. The fenestration is irregular, with casements to the right and 12-pane horned sashes in a projecting bay on the left. There are also two 20th-century gabled full dormers in the roof. At the rear, there is a blocked round archway on the ground floor to the left. Inside, there is a 20th-century staircase leading from the ground floor to the attic. The dining room on the ground floor left features a 15th-century four-centre-arched stone fireplace surround with quatrefoils in the spandrels, while the sitting room has a four-centre-arched stone fireplace surround. Historically, it is believed to have been the former chapel of St. Cecilia and was part of the Minster Lovell Manor complex, which was owned by the Lovell family from the 12th century until 1485.
