Description

The Old Court is a former police station, dating to 1869, designed by William Wilkinson. It is constructed from rough-faced coursed rubble with ashlar dressings, and has a tiled roof with end chimneys of rough-faced rubble. The building is in a Tudor vernacular style. It is two storeys high, with a string course above the ground floor. The central rebated Tudor arched doorway is painted out. There are three windows on the front elevation; the upper floor has plate-glass sash windows with chamfered mullions, with taller two-light windows indicating the former courtroom location. The ground floor windows are three-light plate-glass sashes. Flat-topped front railings are set on a stepped boundary wall. The interior has been largely altered. The building is included on the list for its group value.
