Description
No. 38 Taynton is a house that was formerly a shop and dwelling, dating from the mid-18th century, with a likely late 18th-century addition on the right side. The building features coursed squared stone construction and a stone slate roof with stone stacks. It is two stories high and has a three-window main range, along with a two-window addition to the right.
The main entrance is a 20th-century glazed door located at the center of the main range, which is topped by an open pediment. Above the door, there is a stone hood supported by shaped stone brackets, featuring a painted inscription that reads "William Clark, Dealer in Tea, Coffee, Tobacco and Snuff." The main range has two-light stone mullion windows on both the ground and first floors to the left and right, and a single-light window at the center of the first floor. The right addition has a 20th-century door to the left, and the windows display irregular fenestration with 20th-century casements and wooden lintels. The interior has undergone alterations in the 20th century.
