Description

The main station building at Charlbury was constructed in 1853 for the Oxford, Worcester and Wolverhampton Railway, showcasing Brunel's standard Italianate style. It is a single-storey structure that is timber-framed and weatherboarded, featuring a brick chimney and a hipped slate roof. The building consists of three bays with overhanging eaves supported by moulded brackets, creating a canopy over the platform. A projecting central bay faces the station yard to the east.

The windows are round-headed casement types with moulded architraves and two brackets beneath each sill. There is one 20th-century door on each front, accompanied by a plain fanlight. A plain impost band runs around the building. Inside, the station features matchboard panelling up to dado level. The Station Master's office includes a contemporary bench with drawers, while both the Waiting Room and Ladies Waiting Room contain a contemporary bench with turned legs, arm rests, and buttoned leather upholstery.

On the platform, there are five benches supported by cast iron with the Great Western Railway monogram in the spandrels. Additionally, the original station name board displays 'CHARLBURY' in a bold sans serif typeface on two posts.
