Description
New House Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early to mid-18th century, with some elements from the 17th century. It is constructed of coursed squared marlstone and features a roof made of concrete plain tiles and Welsh slate, with brick gable stacks. The building has a two-unit plan and an added rear outshut, standing two storeys plus an attic on a semi-basement.
The symmetrical front has three windows, with a central six-panel door that is accessed by a long flight of stone steps. The outer bays have 16-pane sash windows, and there is a 12-pane sash window above the door. Most windows feature flat arches above wooden lintels and were likely originally casements. At the rear, there is a gabled stair tower with a tall window, now surrounded by a deep slated outshut, which is probably also from the 18th century. This outshut includes a three-light casement window at the basement level, featuring a stop-chamfered lintel.
Inside, the basement has stop-chamfered beams and joists that likely belong to an earlier house, and the roof is supported by butt-purlins.
