Description
Post Box Cottage is a house located on Sutton Lane in Stanton Harcourt. It dates back to the 17th century and has undergone later alterations. The building is timber-framed with rendered and wattle and daub infill, resting on a limestone rubble plinth. The left bay is clad in coursed limestone rubble, and it features a gabled thatch roof with a brick stack at the left end. The cottage has a two-unit plan and is one storey with an attic, displaying a two-window range.
On the right side, there is a 20th-century two-light casement window, while the left side has a late 19th-century two-light casement window with timber lintels above it, as well as a projection for a bread oven. The cottage also has two-light dormer casements. A plank door with a chamfered wood architrave is located at the rear, and there is an entry in a 20th-century extension to the right. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to be of interest. The building is shown on the Ordnance Survey map as Letter Box Cottage and Devonia.
