Description

Rectory Cottage is a house dating from the mid-17th century, located in Great Rollright. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings, and has a Welsh-slate roof with a brick ridge stack. The house follows a two-unit lobby-entry plan.

The front facade is regular in appearance, with three windows. The central doorway has a wooden lintel and is surmounted by a two-light stone-mullioned window. The right bay features three-light mullioned windows on both floors, while the left bay originally had a four-light window at ground floor, which was reduced to three lights when a doorway was inserted to the extreme left. All windows have stone lintels. The steeply-pitched 19th-century roof includes a gabled roof dormer and a large central stack with three shafts. The right gable wall has a chamfered plinth and features aligned mullioned windows of three, three, and two lights.

The rear of the house, facing the road, includes a small original stair window and two later windows.

Internally, the house retains central back-to-back open fireplaces. One fireplace has a cambered bressumer and a blocked oven, while the other has inglenooks.
