Description
The Former Witney Mill is a blanket mill built around 1820. It features squared and coursed limestone with brick walling on the gable ends and a stone-coped Welsh-slate roof. The building has four storeys and a symmetrical six-window range. There is a concrete lintel over the plank double doors to the left and a flat stone arch over the central plank door. Flat stone arches are present over the iron casements. Inside, heavy beams are supported by cast-iron columns.
The mill was water-powered and combined the processes of fulling, weaving, and spinning under one roof. While the shafts and wheels for belts remain, the mill-wheel has been removed. This is the earliest surviving industrial building of Richard Early and Sons Ltd., of which it remains a part. The flanking wings are not of special architectural interest.
