Description

The school and schoolhouse, built in 1852, are constructed from coursed squared marlstone with ashlar dressings and feature Stonesfield-slate roofs with limestone ashlar stacks. The building consists of two L-shaped ranges surrounding a small courtyard.

On the left side of the front, the shorter wing of the schoolroom range includes a gabled stone porch with an arched entrance, flanked by two 2-light stone-mullioned windows with lattice glazing and labels. The left gable features a large canopied bellcote above a 4-light stone mullioned-and-transomed window. The five-window rear wing has 2-light mullioned-and-transomed windows, all with labels, and another 4-light window in the rear gable wall.

The shorter wing of the schoolhouse range is set back to the right of the front, behind later flat-roofed extensions, and extends to the right with stone-mullioned windows of 3, 1, and 2 lights below stone-gabled dormers of 2, 1, and 2 lights, all with labels and lattice glazing. The rear gable wall features a 2-light mullioned window above a canted 4-light bay window with stone mullions and a crenellated stone roof. The roofs have gable parapets with carved kneelers and clusters of octagonal stacks with moulded caps. The interior has not been inspected.
