GREAT TEW SP42NW 6/4 Beaconsfield Farmhouse: granary range approx. 40m. to W

GV II

Granaries and open sheds. Probably C18. Limestone rubble with marlstone-ashlar dressings and some weatherboarding; Stonesfield-slate, Welsh-slate and corrugated-iron roofs. L-shaped plan. 4-bay granary to east stands on 5 circular piers with bases and caps, the outer piers bonded to the end walls. The upper floor is weatherboarded, and against the southern gable wall is an ashlar stair with a dog kennel beneath. Returning westwards from the north end is a 3-bay stone-slated cartshed with wooden posts supporting the weatherboarded front of a loft or granary. The single-storey open-fronted 4-bay shed continuing that range has round stone piers with bases and caps, and a corrugated-iron roof. Interior: rear wall of eastern range has 3 semicircular stone responds. Beaconsfield Farm is on the site of a Roman villa.
