Description
Old Rectory Cottage is the service wing of the Old Rectory, to which it is attached. It dates from the late 17th century and was altered in the early 20th century. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with a Cotswold stone roof and features a 20th-century ashlar chimney.
In terms of layout, the cottage has a range that connects to an L-plan wing at the northern end. The main range is two storeys high and has a symmetrical arrangement of bays, consisting of 1:2:1. There are outer doors, with the right-hand door now converted into a window. To the left, there is an arch-headed opening with glazing-bar sashes above a half-dormer. The ground floor includes two three-light hollow-chamfered mullion windows, while the first floor has one two-light casement window.
The L-plan range to the northeast is single storey, with its ridge at the same height as the main range. It features a three-light ovolo-moulded mullion window and has a 1:1 bay arrangement to the southeast. There are two stables and a gable above an elliptical arch coach entry to the northwest, which is adorned with fine early 20th-century strap hinges. The rear of the cottage, facing northwest, has a three-light hollow-chamfered mullioned window and two hipped dormers.
