Description
This pair of cottages, built in the early 19th century, is located approximately 20 meters east of The Grove. They are constructed from coursed squared marlstone with some ashlar dressings and feature thatched roofs with brick stacks. The cottages form an L-shaped range, designed in a 17th-century style, and are two stories tall.
The right cottage has a symmetrical front with two windows, a central Tudor-arched doorway beneath a label with carved lozenge stops, and flanking stone-mullioned windows: a three-light window on the ground floor and a two-light window above. The left cottage, which projects forward, has a similar façade facing left and features three-light mullioned windows in the end wall beneath a half-hipped gable. Both the right and rear gables have parapets, and some first-floor casements retain lattice lights. There is a 20th-century extension at the rear of the left cottage.
The interiors have not been inspected. These cottages are mirrored by a second pair to the right and share similar details with contemporary estate cottages at Great Tew. They were built by the Wilson family of Over Worton House.
