Description
Bricks Cottage is a late 17th-century cottage that was extended in the 19th century, with minor later additions and alterations. The walls are of roughly coursed marlstone rubble, with a straw thatch roof and slate roofs to extensions. Originally a two-cell building, it was extended to the right and has outbuildings to either side, with the right-hand side heightened in the 19th century. The cottage is one storey and has an attic. The road-facing front has 19th-century casement windows on either side of a flush 4-panel door to the original section. A leaded casement window is to the right of the joint between the original section and the extension, and a casement sits to the left of the outbuilding, all with wooden lintels. Integral ashlar end stacks are present (the left one was rebuilt in the 20th century), along with an integral end stack featuring a shaft of purple engineering brick to the left outbuilding. The rear of the cottage has a 19th-century verandah over a 19th-century casement window, with plank doors to the left and right. Another 19th-century casement is located to the right of the verandah. There are three eyebrow eaves dormers with leaded casements. Interior inspection was not possible during a resurvey in August 1987, but it is likely to be of interest.
