Description

Coneygree Gate is a house that underwent early 19th-century remodelling of a mid-18th-century structure, with some minor later additions and alterations. The building features regularly coursed limestone rubble with alternating angle quoins on the 18th-century part, larger stones used for raising the eaves, and some banded marlstone on the 19th-century addition. It has a slate roof with integral end stacks.

Originally a two-storey, three-bay house, it was extended by one bay to the left in the 19th century, making it three storeys tall. The 18th-century section has leaded casements with wedged voussoirs, consisting of three lights except for one two-light window on the upper left. The entrance is directly below this window and features a six-panel door, with the top panels now glazed, and a bracketed flat wooden hood above it. There are two-light leaded casements directly below the eaves.

The 19th-century bay includes a segmental-headed tripartite glazing bar sash window on both the ground and first floors, along with a sash window of reduced proportions directly below the eaves. The building has integral ashlar end stacks and a ridge stack to the right, all adorned with moulded dripstones and capping. A cellar on the right gable end is lit by a two-light mullion window with a segmental relieving arch. There is also a lower range at right angles to the rear on the right, which may have originally been agricultural. The house occupies a prominent corner position.
