Description

A cottage pair dating from the 17th century, located on the south side of High Street, Ascott-under-Wychwood. The cottages are constructed of rubble with timber lintels and have a Cotswold stone roof. They are two storeys in height, with four windows of varying widths. The windows are 2- and 3-light casements from the 19th and 20th centuries, with 20th-century decorative “leading”. The right-hand range of number 4 includes enriched chamfers to the lintels and a datestone reading “May 30 - /Anno DNI”. A 2-light chamfered mullion window is found at the rear, entered from the rear garden. Number 6 has a 20th-century gabled porch in a lower extension to the left. Modern brick chimneys are located at each end. A window with similar enrichment to that of number 4 also exists at Burford, in the Swan Gallery.
