Description
This group of four chest tombs, dating from the mid to late 18th century, is located approximately 7 to 11 meters south of the south aisle of the Church of St. Mary Magdalene. They are made of limestone. The tomb in the north-west features a moulded plinth and cornice, corner balusters, a fielded inscription panel, and one panel carved with winged cherub's heads above three carved cartouches, commemorating Benjamin Reade, who died in 1791. The late 18th century tomb to the south-west also has a moulded plinth and cornice, corner balusters, and panelled sides. The tea-caddy tomb in the center commemorates John Churchill, who died in 1771, and other family members; it is cross-shaped, with panelled sides and a moulded top. The mid to late 18th century tomb to the south-east features a moulded plinth and cornice, corner balusters, revealed side panels, and, in the end panels, a rococo cartouche and swags.
