Description

Garrett House, now functioning as a house and shop, dates from the early 18th century but has origins in the 17th century. It was refronted around 1840. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble, with a mid-19th century stucco front featuring raised quoin strips. It has a stone slate roof that is hipped at the front and gabled at the rear, along with a brick end stack. The house has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys high with an attic, displaying a one-window range.

The mid-19th century shop front features half-glazed and panelled double doors, flanked by glazing-bar windows that are framed by pilasters and a cornice. On the first floor, there is an early 19th century eight-pane sash window set within a moulded wood architrave. The left side wall includes six-pane sashes within mid-19th century raised and blocked stone architraves. At the rear, there is a two-storey wing with a roof made of Welsh slate and concrete tiles.

Inside, the building features a mid-19th century straight-flight staircase with stick balusters at the rear. The front first-floor room contains a mid-18th century shell niche. Surrounding the property, tall 18th century limestone rubble walls with stone slate coping enclose a garden at the rear, which measures approximately 6 metres wide and 42 metres long.
