Description
A pair of houses at 18 and 20 Park Street, Woodstock, dating to the early 19th century, though with earlier origins. The houses were originally built for Thomas Higgins, a local carrier, who acquired the property in 1799, and were later described in 1869 as having been converted into two dwellings. They are now two separate residences. The houses were constructed with Flemish bond brickwork, with limestone ashlar dressings to the front and a rear wall of limestone rubble. The roof is gabled and covered in Welsh slate, with brick end and ridge stacks. The layout is based on a four-unit plan, and the facade is arranged with a five-window range over three storeys. No. 18 features a keyed flat brick arch and scrolled wrought-iron brackets supporting a flat hood over an early 19th-century six-panelled door with an overlight. A similar keyed flat brick arch sits above a six-panelled door to the left, leading to No. 20. Other windows are early 19th-century six-pane sashes, all with keyed flat brick arches. Architectural details include a stone plinth, storey bands, and quoin strips, culminating in a bracketed cornice beneath a parapet. A stair-turret projects to the rear, and a limestone rubble rear left wing was rebuilt in the 20th century. The interior has not been inspected but is likely to contain features of interest.
