Description
The Townsend Memorial and an unidentified chest tomb are located approximately 2 meters east of the chancel of the Church of St. Andrew. The pair of chest tombs date from around 1756 and the late 18th century, and are made of limestone. They are rectangular in shape, featuring a moulded plinth and capping. The Townsend memorial has square corner balusters and inscription panels that are flanked by fluted pilasters. The northern inscription commemorates John (died 1743), Sarah (died 1728), and William (died 1758), who were the children of John and Rebekah Townsend, with Rebekah's dates being 1756 and 1736 respectively, noted on a rectangular inscription panel at the east end. The unidentified chest tomb to the south has plain corner pilasters, and its inscription panel to the south was illegible at the time of resurvey in August 1987.
