Description
Burleigh Farmhouse, along with its attached barn and stable range, is a farmhouse dated 1801. It is constructed from coursed limestone rubble and features a gabled concrete tile roof that is hipped at the rear wing. The building has an L-plan layout with a rear left wing and stands two storeys high, displaying a three-window range. The central entrance has a flat stone arch above an early 19th-century six-panelled door, which has two glazed panels and is set in a moulded wood architrave. To the left of the door, there is a flat stone arch over a tall stair-light with glazing bars, along with blind windows. To the left of the door is a tripartite early 19th-century sash window, and to the right is a later 19th-century horned tripartite sash. On the first floor, there are 20th-century top-hung casements. A large early 19th-century plank door is located at the rear. Inside, there are plank and panelled doors, and the dog-leg staircase features stick balusters, ramped handrails, and moulded newel posts. The roof timber is dated 1801.
The attached barn and stable range to the right are also made of coursed limestone rubble, with a gabled roof covered in Welsh slate at the front and stone slate at the rear. The stables on the left have timber lintels over early 19th-century plank loft and stable doors in the centre, as well as an early 19th-century stable door at the rear. The barn on the right has a timber lintel over double doors and features a gabled midstrey with an adjoining corn room at the rear. The interior of the barn has a collar-truss roof with butt purlins. This complex was built following the enclosure of former open fields in 1800.
