Description
The entrance gateway, gates, and railings with flanking walls are located approximately 20 meters southwest of the south porch of the Church of St. James in Rousham Village. This gateway dates from the mid-18th century and is likely designed by architect William Kent. It is constructed from limestone ashlar and features a roll-moulded pointed arch with simple capitals. The wrought-iron gates are adorned with a decorative overthrow. The gateway is flanked by 19th-century buttresses and a low wall topped with wrought-iron railings. The Gothic style of the gateway is similar to that of the garden seat attached to the garden walls, which is also attributed to Kent.
