Description

The tombs in the churchyard of All Saints Church in Great Faringdon date from the late 18th to early 19th centuries and are notable examples of funerary architecture.

On the north side of the chancel is the Townsend tomb, a late 18th-century chest tomb featuring baluster corners. To the east of the chancel are two adjacent Edoe tombs, also late 18th-century chest tombs with baluster corners.

Southeast of the chancel is the tomb of Sir John Carr, dating from around 1833. This chest tomb is designed in the Greek revival style, complete with a plinth, a central raised plaque, and ends that project slightly. It is pedimented on three sides and features reversed torches and wreaths carved in relief.

Slightly to the east of the chancel is the Stephenson tomb, a later 18th-century oval table tomb adorned with a plaque and wreaths carved in relief on the south side.

To the south of the south door is the Green monument, an early 19th-century chest tomb with a humped top and fluted angles. Adjacent to the approach to the south door is the Wicks monument, also an early 19th-century chest tomb with a humped top and fluted angles. Finally, to the northeast of the Wicks monument is the Heath tomb, a late 18th-century chest tomb featuring baluster corners.
