Description
Nos 1 and 3 Church Street are a pair of picturesque cottages from the mid to later 19th century, located in Great Faringdon. They are built from rubble stone with ashlar dressings and stand two stories high. The cottages feature a plain tile roof with four paired corniced stone chimney stacks. There is a four-window range of leaded stone mullioned windows, with two-light windows above and three-light windows below, and the upper windows are set under small dormer gables. A central Tudor-arched gateway provides access through a wide carriage arch.
The west end wall has an external chimney stack with an inset panel and a blank shield. At the east end, incorporated under a continuous roof, is an additional two-window range from an older barn. This end has a half-hipped gable, with single leaded windows on the first floor also under small half-hipped dormer gables. The ground floor features two plank doors.
