Description

Ashdown House Pavilion, built around 1662, is one of a pair associated with Ashdown House. It features imitation stone render, limestone dressings, and quoins, along with a stone slate roof and limestone stacks. The pavilion has a 1.5-storey, 5-window range, with the front facing Ashdown House. The central entrance consists of a late 19th-century, 6-panelled door framed by a limestone eared architrave, a semi-circular arch with a raised key, and a decorative fanlight. The windows are 4-light wood-mullioned and transomed casements with 20th-century plate glass and limestone eared architraves, complemented by four gabled dormers with moulded cornices and 20th-century casements.

The rear elevation mirrors the front with identical windows and five similar dormers, including a raised central dormer. The north gable end features a blind door with a limestone eared architrave, a pulvinated frieze, and a moulded cornice. The building has a moulded plinth, raised and chamfered quoins, and a dentilled wood cornice, topped by a hipped roof with a bell cupola and end stacks with moulded caps. A square block with similar detailing is attached to the right corner, which has a front planked door with a limestone eared architrave.

Inside, there are mutilated chalk fireplaces on the left and right. The dog-leg staircase opposite the entry has no surviving balusters. The rear right wall features limestone ashlar with a moulded plinth and coping, divided into two bays by piers with banded rustication, a moulded cornice, and ball finials. A 20th-century garage has been built against the front wall of the right gable of the pavilion.
