Description

Greenhill Cottage is a building that was originally two cottages, now functioning as a single house. It dates from the late 17th century, with a two-bay extension added in the 18th century to the left. The structure is made of coursed limestone rubble and features a thatched roof with brick stacks.

The cottage is one storey high with an attic and has a six-window range. To the right, there is an early 19th-century four-panelled door with a timber lintel, and a segmental brick arch over a blocked door. To the left of the 17th-century section, there is a 20th-century casement window and a timber lintel over another blocked door leading to the 18th-century extension. The 20th-century casements have concrete lintels, timber lintels, and brick soldier arches above them. There are two half-dormers on the roof, which also has a half-hipped design. The ridge stack is the previous end stack of the 17th-century house, with an additional stack on the left gable end. The right gable wall features segmental brick arches over the 20th-century casements.

Inside, the room to the right has a chamfered and stopped beam with a stone bressumer above an open fireplace, and the stairs have been remodelled but remain in their original position next to the stack. The central room contains a chamfered beam and two 19th-century cupboards next to the fireplace. On the first floor, there is an 18th-century plank door. The roof to the left of the stack has been remodelled in the 20th century, while the roof to the right retains a collar truss with butt purlins and original straw and mud daubing under the thatch.
