Description
Compton Beauchamp House, along with its gates, gatepiers, and walls, dates from around 1710. The gates are flanked by square limestone piers that feature engaged half columns. The left pier is topped with a putto holding a dolphin, while the right pier has a putto with two spheres. The wrought-iron gates are finely crafted. The piers are connected to a wall from the same period, which has an inner face made of Flemish bond brick with flared headers, although the top ten courses are new. The outer face of the wall is constructed from sarsen rubble with brick cross-banding.
