Description

Hillside Farmhouse, now a house, was built in the mid-18th century. It is located on the south side of Chawley, on Cumnor Chawley Lane. The original farmhouse is constructed from coursed limestone rubble, with a gabled roof covered in old tiles. It features brick stacks at both ends of the house. The building follows a central-staircase plan, originally with two main rooms. It is two storeys high, with a symmetrical facade of three windows. The windows are timber-framed casements, with a timber lintel over the late 19th-century half-glazed front door and over most of the windows, except for a one-light casement above the door. A later 18th-century addition is located to the left, constructed in limestone rubble with a gabled roof covered in stone slates. This section also has two storeys and two windows. The interior has not been inspected, but likely contains features of interest.
