Description

Place Farm House is a Grade II* listed farmhouse that has been converted into a house. It features a 15th-century wing at the rear and a 16th-century front range. The building has a painted brick plinth and small timber-framing with painted brick infill, topped by an old plain-tile hipped roof. There is a brick ridge stack located to the left of center and an end stack at the rear right of the 15th-century wing. The house is L-shaped, with two storeys and an attic, and has a three-window range. Most windows are 19th-century casements, except for a 18th-century wood cross-window on the first floor to the right, which has leaded lights.

On the right return, there is a rendered plinth and small timber-framing with some renewed timber on the ground floor and the left side of the first floor, featuring brick infill. The right side of the first floor has close-studded timber-framing with rendered infill. The house again has two storeys and an attic with a three-window range, a six-panel door to the left of center with an over-light, and irregular fenestration of 19th-century casements. There are two gabled full dormers.

Inside, there is an early 19th-century straight-flight staircase from the ground to the first floor on the right, and a wood winder staircase from the first floor to the attic also on the right. The roof features a double Queen-post design with some alterations and two rows of windbraces. The ground floor of the 15th-century portion has deeply moulded spine and cross-beams, while the first floor, now a bedroom, has a deeply moulded spine beam with chamfered joists that have end stops. The adjoining bathroom also features chamfered joists with end stops.
